Sorcery Contested Realm FAQ - Helpful Answers for the TCG
Sorcery: Contested Realm has quickly become the talk of the town in the TCG world. If mystical creatures and thematic gameplay are what you're looking for, Sorcery: Contested Realm should check a lot of boxes for you.
With so many eager and excited players looking to try the game, we've decided to put together a FAQ that should help clarify some of the more intricate interactions in the game.
Q: Can Voidwalk minions be cast to ANY void space?
A: Yes. Minions with the Voidwalk ability can be summoned into, and navigate safely on any space that does not currently have an existing site occupying it.
Q: Does Disenchant still kill auras if they are an “aura minion”?
A: Yes. Disenchant checks for any and all cards in play with the “aura” keyword and destroys them.
Q: Can I defend my site from an incoming attack from an Airborne minion with a non-Airbone minion?
A: Yes. Thematically, the Airborne attacker is flying down to attack your site and can be defended by minions without Airborne.
Q: Can I strike a site with a ranged strike ability?
A: No. Because a ranged strike reads: “Strike target enemy unit at a range of up to one step away in a cardinal direction.” Sites are not considered a unit so they can not become the target of a ranged strike.
Q: Can my projectile travel across the void to hit a target on another site?
A: No. The official ruling on projectiles is: “It travels within the same region as the unit or caster that fired it until it either can’t move further or it hits the first unit that it comes into contact with.” This ruling prevents projectiles from entering the Void and hitting anything there, or beyond it.
Q: Can my minion with Burrow perform the Burrow action on a water site?
A: No. Burrow is a keyword that only works with land sites. Anything that interacts with below-surface mechanics on water sites will require the keyword Submerge.
Q: What is my "body of water"?
A: Your body of water is the combination of water sites that are adjacent to one another. For example, if you control 5 water sites and they are all adjacent to at least one other water site under your control, this would be considered your body of water.
Q: What is the difference between summoning and casting?
A: Casting is the act of playing a card from hand and paying its cost in Mana and Threshold. Summoning is the physical act of putting a minion in play. If you have a card that says to "summon" a minion, you do not have to meet the mana or threshold cost to play it.
Q: If I sacrifice Crown Prince (e.g. Moon Clan Werewolf, Cauldron Crones, etc.), does its deathrite still trigger?
A: Yes, sacrificing is killing, therefore the deathrite ability triggers
Q: Does my ranged minion get hit back from non-ranged minions during combat?
A: If the Minion with the ranged ability chooses to use its basic “move and attack” action, the defending unit will deal damage back to it. If the ranged ability is used instead, it does not receive damage back, because strikes cannot be defended, even if they are both on the same site.
Q: Can I defend if my minion has summoning sickness?
A: Yes. Summoning sickness only affects a minion's ability to attack or perform other basic actions during the turn it was summoned. It can still defend during summoning sickness. Cards with the”Genesis” keyword trigger once the card has been played or summoned onto the realm.
Q: If I move a unit to an opponent's unoccupied site, do I take control of that site and gain its mana?
A: No, you are simply occupying the site. You cannot summon your minions to sites that you do not control. “Occupying” and “controlling” are different in this way. You can, however, attack an enemy site that you occupy.
